The Porto Antico was a part of a restoration project in 1992, to celebrate Christopher Columbus’ accomplishments. The idea of the restoration was to “return the port to the city of Genova”. As a result a large cultural center was born. Cultural events, conventions, museums, exhibitions, and shows are all held here. It is a beautiful harbor with lots of space to walk and to sit.
Located at the Port for entertainment is the Acquario, an ice skating rink, the Bolla which houses a miniature rain forest, and a multiplex cinema. There are many restaurants and bars in the area, and seafood abounds. The day we were there, fisherman returning from the sea offered their fish for sale on the docks. You can’t get much fresher than that!
